Workshop on interpretive approach to the song from the point of view of the performer and the composer.
May 6, 7, 8 and9 at «Maria Chrysostomou School of Music & Theatre».
Natassa Bofiliou and Themis Karamouratidis will analyse the way they approach performing a song from the point of view of the performer and the composer. The seminar will be interactive as participants will have the chance to perform songs and will receive valuable knowledge around song performance throughout the workshop. Spectators can also be part of the seminar.

Lyric Writing Workshop with Odysseas Ioannou.

Odysseas Ioannou returns to "Maria Chrysostomou School of Music & Theatre" for a lyric writing workshop.
Our artistic concerns can now find proper guidance. In March 2019, Odysseas Ioannou will be in Nicosia to provide us with solid foundations in the art of lyric writing and beyond. Join us at our music school for this enriching workshop.
The workshop is designed for both beginners and advanced participants, as well as those who have attended previous sessions. It offers a structured approach focusing primarily on discussions and interactivity, exploring topics related to lyrics and Greek music in general. The workshop will include technical exercises (meter, rhyme, rhythmic reading) and thematic exercises.
The workshop spans 16 hours over four sessions on March 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, 2019. The preset hours for the workshop may change based on the participants' availability.

Participants should visit the workshop venue to complete their registration form and provide a deposit to secure their spot.

The workshop will be held at the premises of Maria Chrysostomou School of Music & Theatre (Vasileos Pavlou 25, Agios Dometios, Nicosia).
Odysseas
Odysseas Ioannou, a radio producer, journalist, and author, has contributed to over two hundred songs in collaboration with prominent Greek composers and performers of our era. He writes for newspapers and magazines, has published five books, released eight personal albums, and composed songs for theater and cinema. Ioannou's rich portfolio includes collaborating on various artistic projects.
In 2018, he began with Vasili Papakonstantinou their new performance "Small Illegitimacies," featuring their own texts and on-stage narration. In 2014, he wrote the texts for the popular music-theatrical performance "9:05," directed by Pantelis Voulgaris, in which he again took the stage alongside Vasili Papakonstantinou, Christos Thivaios, and Rita Antonopoulou.#
Odysseas's perspective on the lyric writing workshop:
"After six years of running the workshop at the Chalkidonion Conservatory and also in Cyprus, I can only speak about what I have learned, and I don't believe I'm the right person to talk about the participants. I've become an attentive listener again – a quality that fades with time and especially through the professional involvement with music. I remember how it feels to be moved by a song, engaging with it physically, through automatic reactions, without diluting the emotion with thoughts, comparisons, and analyses.
I've been asked questions that resemble the persistent questions of a young child, characterized by their literal persistence and faith in the abstract. We've had discussions about songs that I hadn't engaged with for years, like a group discovering or falling in love with something from scratch. We've laughed a lot through lighthearted explorations of both themes and situations. I'm not a teacher, I don't teach others anything. I think I'm more of a piano tuner, trying to adjust imperfections based on experience, and someone who sparks conversations that soften our certainties and tame our enthusiasms.
I emerge from each workshop better, and I'm doubly delighted when friendships – or even collaborations – are forged that endure."

«Workshop of Interpretive Approach to Song with Natassa Bofiliou and Themis Karamouratidis»

Natassa Bofiliou and Themis Karamouratidis, both distinguished figures with significant achievents in the realms of performance and composition respectively, will be with us for a four-day seminar. in this event, they will impart their expertise in the process of interpreting songs. Throughout the workshops, each participant will present at least one song of their choice. Natassa and Themis will share their valuable insights to facilitate the participants' pursuit of a refined interpretive approach to song performance.
An approach that doesn't solely rely on vocal capabilities and skills but considers them as integral components and structural elements for the completeness and proficiency of a performer. During this cycle of workshops, the artists, while setting aside their given skills in performance and composition, will attempt to convey something not easily approached: the significant role of accurate interpretation, the knowledge, and the keys to achieving the most profound rendering of the meaning and deeper emotions of songs.

The "Maria Chrysostomou School of Music & Theatre" invites you to a lyric writing workshop with Odysseas Ioannou.
This workshop is tailored for both beginners and advanced participants. It encompasses technical exercises (meter, rhyme, rhythmic reading) as well as thematic exercises. However, there is a special emphasis on discussion and interactivity, focusing on topics related to lyrics and broader aspects of Greek music.
The workshop spans 24 hours, conducted over six sessions during the first three weekends of November 2017, with each day's session lasting four hours.
